I work at a knitting store, and am trying to get folks to start knitting socks. I'm looking for a specific type of single-sheet knitting pattern. Ann Norling has a pattern called "Headhuggers - Any Size Any Gauge Hats." It has instructions for making simple ribbed hats and a chart that tells you how many stitches to cast on if your gage is X st/inch and your size is Y inches.
I want a generic sock pattern that does the same thing. Does anybody know of one similar to this? They are all over the internet, but I need a published one.
Thanks!

Re: Published Sock Patterns (x-post)
Sat, May 26, 2007 - 6:37 PMThe Yarn Harlot's sock recipe is in one of her books. Does that count?

Mon, May 28, 2007 - 9:34 AMI know you're looking for a single sheet, but could I suggest the book "Sensational Knitted Socks"? For people who may have never knit socks before, this is a good instructional book, and a good reference book in general.
I do have one sheet pattern from SWTC for Tidal Wave Socks. :o) -

Re: Published Sock Patterns (x-post)
Mon, May 28, 2007 - 5:33 PMThanks for the suggestion, but this is for a sock class. So generally, people who are paying for a class don't want to also pay for a book to go with it. When we charge for classes, it's $20/session plus supplies. So the book would seriously add to that. The single sheet thing would be better.
I appreciate the help, though. -

Re: Published Sock Patterns (x-post)
Mon, May 28, 2007 - 6:15 PMAhh, I did not realize it was for a class. It does make sense. Hope you find a good pattern.
Another suggestion: maybe print out copies of a pattern off of knitty.com? It's published and free, so it is something they wouldn't have to pay for. -

Exactly what I was looking for! Isn't the internet a wonderful thing?

Re: Published Sock Patterns (x-post)
Tue, May 29, 2007 - 10:32 PMKnitty's copyright is pretty specific about how those patterns can and cannot be used, and I have a sneaking suspicion that yarn shops aren't supposed to print out multiple copies for class use.
X.

Re: Published Sock Patterns (x-post)
Mon, June 4, 2007 - 2:42 PMI made one for our sock classes. Or, rather, I typed up specific instructions with blanks for putting in your own gauge and measurements and calculating your own pattern, using the proportion-process from Priscilla Gibson-Roberts' "Simple Socks". The class would begin by helping everyone do a gauge, take measurements, and do the math. Then I typed up a shoe-size to foot-measurements chart (found online), for making socks for other people. Total cost: free.
