I'm making another adult surprise jacket, so I'm trying the cardigan variation given on the back of the pattern. However, it only talks you through the first part of the pattern. Can anyone out there help me figure out the rest? I'm stuck on "continue increasing until you're back to the original number cast-on (9K)" . But, since the cardigan variation starts with 10K, and I'm knitting to 10K or 9K?

I can't imagine casting on 10K stitches. YIKES! Makes my hands hurt a little thinking about it! -

Re: Help: Surprise Jacket Variation
Mon, January 7, 2008 - 5:13 PMOh, don't worry! It's 10 x K (where K equals a number of stitches that you calculate, using your gauge and chest size. In my case, it's 33, so I cast on 330). I actually got an e-mail back from Meg Swansen about it. I'm so honored! She said either works--9k if I want a slimmer body, which I do, so that's what I'll got up to (297, that is). -

Re: Help: Surprise Jacket Variation
Sun, January 6, 2008 - 9:39 PMMy guess would be 10K. If the pattern is for pullover and the variation is cardigan, then the pattern would be written with pullover info throughout and might or might not include the variation information for each step.
I don't have the pattern in front of me, but I'm SURE you don't actually mean 10,000 stitches. <gulp> Do you? -

Re: Help: Surprise Jacket Variation
Mon, January 7, 2008 - 3:57 AMIf your original cast on is 10K, then that's what it is. If you can, see if you can contact the company or person who wrote the instructions and see if there's an errata. I do this all the time and usually get a speedy answer. Check online for an email address or phone#.
