Re: good first project for circular needles?
Mon, March 26, 2007 - 4:40 AMHow long are they? I'm loving making mobius scarves, but it requires a really long circ (like a 60" cable on a size 10 needle). -

Re: good first project for circular needles?
Mon, March 26, 2007 - 3:48 AMI knitted a sweater first using circular needles, but maybe a hat is an easier project. There's some great ones on knittinghelp.com.

Mon, March 26, 2007 - 5:19 AMHOw about a hat?
Although circs are so much easier than straights anyway, it hardly matters.

Re: good first project for circular needles?
Mon, March 26, 2007 - 9:59 AMHats are fabulous, and so are bags. Felted bags are pretty darned easy, often knit in the round, and felting covers up all your mistakes. They're grrreat!

Good luck!

Mon, March 26, 2007 - 1:13 PMMy very first project was a sweater, and it was on circular needles. You don't have to be knitting in the round to use them. -

Re: good first project for circular needles?
Tue, March 27, 2007 - 2:47 PMmy first project with circs was a circular scarf.
really easy, cast on stitches to go all the way around the needle, join together and then knit 'til you can't knit no more. a scarf works up pretty fast, so you get that gratification of finishing a project as well as getting a feel for circs.
of course, if you can't stop with just a scarf, knit more rounds for a circular shawl. can't stop still? tube skirt! tube dress! the possibilities are endless.
if you have 16" or smaller circs, you might try a hat instead.

Re: good first project for circular needles?
Wed, March 28, 2007 - 1:38 PMI use circular's for projects with tons of stitches such as shawls and the like.
For hats though, you may find that you'll need to switch to four, double-pointed needles as it reduces to a smaller size. -

Re: good first project for circular needles?
Wed, March 28, 2007 - 6:56 PMYou can use two circular needles instead of double points. Much less like wrestling with a porcupine, because the needles you aren't using dangle...

Re: good first project for circular needles?
Fri, April 20, 2007 - 2:06 PMHATS! Although, I was surprised how I took to using multiple needles.
My one problem was switching from 16" to 12" circular. The grip was different. I wanted to buy a pair of 5", but never had the nerve when I saw them at a knitting shop. I can't imagine holding needles with two fingers each when I thought the 12" were akward.
