I am a beginning knitter, but I've been crocheting for 30 years. I want to make some winter scarves for children, for charity, but I have no idea what the width and length should be for elementary age children.
Our office will be giving hats, scarves and gloves to a local elementary school this Christmas as part of a reading program. I would love to whip out a few scarves using some of my odd yarns. I've got quite a few hats made, but I'd like to make some scarves. I can crochet a simple scarf in an evening, but it would help if I had some measurements to make scarves of a size more appropriate to younger children.
I figure there are some experienced Moms that can help me with the measurements.

Re: Measurements needed for children's scarves
Thu, November 8, 2007 - 9:34 AMWell, a handy tip is that a scarf is typically as long as you are tall. So a five foot woman would knit herself a 5 foot scarf. So a four foot kid would want a 4 foot scarf, etc. I'm not familiar with any handy width tips. I would think 4-6 inches...but you could always head out to the mall with a tape measurer to get an idea. -
