I just finished this little hat on the way to go camping. I need to re-work the pattern in a smaller size I intended the hat for my son, but he swims in it. Geeze, break my heart I guess I'll just have to wear it myself.

Did I do the photo post right? New to tribe.

Hi Lark! I love that hat! Awesome! Will you share the pattern or where it could be purchased? Is the point toward the bottom of the pic...is that ear flaps or just design? Do you have another pic?

    I LOVE IT!!

The pattern is from "Knit Wit" Edited by Amy Singer (Knitty.com)

It's probably not kosher to re-print the pattern but it goes KINDA like this:

      R1: CO 6
R2: and all following even rows K.
      R3: K1 M1 end of row =9 sts
      R5: K1 M1 =18sts
      R7: K2 M1 = 27sts
      R9: K3 M1 = 36sts
      folow the pattern of increaseing the # K and then M1 so that you have 45, 54, 63, 72, 81, 90 sts.
      The CC are in row 13, 17 & 21.
This will complete the top (it looks like a pancake)

      Body: K7 k2tog around = 80sts continue 6 rounds. garter
      K8, m1= 90 sts work in stockingette 3"
      k7 k2tog = 80 sts work in garter 6 rounds

      Ear Flaps
BO 23 sts, k 16 on a DPN leave rest on circ.
work 17 in garter 5 rows
      R1: K6 ssk k1 k2tog k6
R2: k (and all remaining even)
      R3: K5 ssk k1 k2 tog K5
contuinue to decrease #K at the beg and end of each odd row til 3 sts remain
      ICord 9" BO

From center of hat add MC and BO 23 finish 2nd ear flap.
add MC to remaining sts and BO.

      DONE

This made a hat that is too big for my 4 YO but really fits me to a T. I think that for him I might have needed to wokr the top with the strips and stop at the 63sts round and then continue down. Will probably mess up the ear flap positions, but that can be dealt with too.

      Have fun.

I was wondering where you found the pattern too, love it!

I'd like to make a hat for my son this winter but wanted something than the basic hat with the pom-pom on top ;)

    looks great!
